Paul Stockwell, Artist

BA (Hons) Fine Art Painting

I studied Fine Art Painting in the 1980s at Bristol Polytechnic and Winchester School of Art, after which I worked in a gallery for a while before a university career in the field of Fine Art, spanning over 30 years. I took early retirement in 2020 and am now able to concentrate on my own artwork in a very tranquil corner of the Emerald Isle, where I gain inspiration from the wildflowers and trees which surround me.

Elspeth Stockwell, Photographer

MA Economics, BA (Hons) Economics, NatDip Horticulture

I am a photographer based in Ireland specialising in floral photography.

I am most influenced by my career in horticulture and landscape design, my love of nature and garden settings, and years creating naturalistic planting designs for clients.

I care deeply about nature and am concerned that we are losing natural spaces at an alarming rate. At the same time, there is a real nostalgia and yearning for natural spaces, woodlands and wildflowers. I support nature and wildlife on my own one acre of land, mostly growing native species but introducing among them a few non-natives to create an exuberant mix of colourful flowers. I hope to remind others of the beauty found in our wild delicate native flora, so that they may be inspired to grow some native flowers in their own gardens. By each playing a small part, we can ensure that a bumble bee noisily disappearing into the deep pink bell flower of a foxglove is a familiar sight and sound for generations to come. Together, we have an amazing opportunity to preserve wildlife through gardening.

Being in nature makes me feel human and connected, and I hope my photography is a reminder of how significant nature is to body and soul.
