Paul Stockwell, Artist

BA (Hons) Fine Art Painting

I studied Fine Art Painting in the 1980s at Bristol Polytechnic and Winchester School of Art, after which I worked in a gallery for a while before a university career in the field of Fine Art, spanning over 30 years. I took early retirement in 2020 and am now able to concentrate on my own artwork in a very tranquil corner of the Emerald Isle, where I gain inspiration from the wildflowers and trees which surround me.

Elspeth Stockwell, Photographer

MA Economics, BA (Hons) Economics, NatDip Horticulture

I am an English fine-art photographer based in County Leitrim, Ireland. My current work is inspired by 17th Century Dutch Old Masters’ floral still life paintings. As a teenager studying art, I was fascinated by the Dutch Old Masters’ paintings such as the domestic settings of Johannes Vermeer, and the beautiful floral paintings of Rachel Ruysch and Jan Davidsz de Heem. My photography transports me back to happy childhood days spent painting.

Contemporary influences include the elegant, domestic paintings by Trudie Mooney and the stunning still life photography of the American photographer, Paulette Tavormina, as well as the photo media artist, Lauren Starr.

But I am probably most heavily influenced by my own career in horticulture and landscape design, my love of nature and garden settings, and years creating naturalistic planting designs for my clients.
