Frith

Frith is an Old English word meaning refuge or woodland.

As a horticulturalist and landscape designer, my refuge is my garden. I think we all at times have a yearning for natural spaces, woodlands and wildflowers. The tranquillity of these spaces makes no demands on us. In my garden I feel at my most human, safe and connected. And my garden provides an amazing opportunity to protect wildlife.

I mostly grow native species in my garden, but I do introduce among them a few non-natives to create an exuberant mix of colourful flowers. I believe that by each playing our small part, we can ensure that a bumble bee noisily disappearing into the deep pink bell flower of a foxglove is a familiar sight and sound for generations to come.

I hope my photography reminds others of the beauty found in our wild delicate native flora, and how easily it might be incorporated into a garden. I also hope the onlooker is reminded of how important nature is to body and soul.

All the images are direct colour printed on to Aluminium Dibond with professional standard hanging rails included. This makes the photos suitable for hanging in humid areas such as the kitchen, bathroom, even outside in a sheltered spot or a potting shed. They can be printed to various sizes. All the photos are taken in my studio.
